Samantha, Michelle and I were having a cheese war (Throwing cheese at each other) And then we had to clean it up but, Samantha said,"The birds will eat it" and me and me and Michelle were like,"Probably not" But then we forgot about the cheese and went to hang-out at my house. Then when we looked over we saw that there was a bunch of seagulls eating the cheese off the road so we decided to get some crackers and bread and feed them...

Day Eleven, of Lent!

You know how yesterday day I said that I wanted something exiting to happen wellll it did! I had forgotten that my friend Michelle's B-day party was today and it was awsome! We all ate cake... I know I broke my Lenten but, seriously who goes to a birthday party and doesn't eat cake!?!? Soooo yea anyway the party started at 4:00pm but Michelle's mom invited me in early so I went in at 3:30pm and I was there until 9:30pm that's 6 hours!!!!!!!!! There was karaoke and it was the first time that I have ever did karaoke. I got a 96% on Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles and a 98% on Play That Funky Music. But, pretty much everyone was singing along I was just holding the mic. And another 98% on Come Together also by the Beatles ummmmm I forgot most of the songs that I sang but I know that I sang allot! I didn't get below an 80% in any of them so I was quite pleased with myself. (not to be prideful or anything) My friend Jenina also sang and it was not easy to make her pick up the mic but, once she did she was deffinently the best singer out of all of us! I took a video but I am sure she would be really mad if I put it on here sooooo since I hate to be mean I won't.That was probably the best B-day party I have ever gone to and trust me I am not over exaggerating!

Day Ten, of Lent!

Today was cleaning day... Other then that is was exactly the same as yesterday... I'm getting tired of these cookie cutter days! Hopefully something exciting happens soon! Then I will actually have something to blog about!

Day Nine, of Lent!

Today was a cookie cutter day... A day like every other... It started with School, And is ending with a Blog blog post about how my day went. The highlight of the day was walking to the store (while it was snowing even though non stuck :~/) to get gum (my Lenten snack) and see Shayna. The only thing different about today was that I am babysitting Zoe-Zoe (hurray!) Even though my days seem to be busier when I watch her I'd rather babysit then sit around and do nothing!

Day Eight, of Lent!

Today was a very boring and very busy day at the same time! Pretty much the whole day I held Jacob because my mom was really busy dealing with the public schools. but, anyway yea me and my mom did some more grading... And grading Grace's tests+Samuel's tests= Massive headache! I am starting to miss my iPod less and less... I don't know if that is a good or bad thing... But, This seems to happen every year I really really miss the thing I gave-up at the very beginning of lent then later I start to forget about it. About half way through is when I really start to miss the thing I gave up. so we'll see on my,"Day twenty-three, of Lent" post. Soooo Yeah, This apparently wasn't a very interesting day! hence the short post...

Day Seven, of Lent!

We had scones for lunch today! They almost broke our Lenten with how delicious they were! My dad came down started to eat one then through it in the garbage and said it was,"sinfully delicious" HAHAHA! and that he would brake his Lenten if he ate it! I graded Samuel and Grace's Light Unit tests today and the result was a massive headache and allot of red sharpie all over the tests! There was only a couple of passed tests and the rest they have to re-do. We are going to average the old score with the new score and whatever the score may be, that's is what they will get... We are continuing to read about kindness and today it took much quicker today because there was much less (almost no) talking in-between sentences. In comparison to yesterday were we couldn't go a sentence without being interrupted by a question or example. The reason why they were so quiet today is because they were in a hurry to get outside and play with there friends (typical!).

Late Pics!
A little behind on grading... I'd say so!

HAHAHA look at my mom!
Sorry about the angle... I was to lazy to flip them!
My best friend while I am grading!

Reading about Kindness...

Jacob!

Scones! yummmm! Here is the website where you can get the recipe. (Click on Scones or recipe to see the website.) I suggest that you add a whole 1 cup more flour then it calls for. because the dough/batter is super sticky! And also flour up your counter real well before putting the dough/batter on it! It is a bit challenging and there is allot of steps but, trust me it is worth it in the long run!

Pics for Grandma!

Jacobs first bite of REAL food haha!

Day Six, of Lent!

I got awakened this morning and remembered it was a school day and a whole other week of lent... x~/ I did my school, which has been quite simple lately since I am approaching the end of the school year. I am about to go into hyper-study mode though to get ready for testing! I made lunch and accidentally made way, way to much spaghetti and sauce! I made so much that we can have it again tomorrow. We are reading a book about Kindness and our goal is to finish the book before Easter. Now it is raining, I have nothing to do and I want my iPod! =~(

Day Five, of Lent!

Just got home from church... I was thinking about, "cheating" (saying as it is Sunday) but, I think I am only cheating with sweets instead. I did however, check my texts and e-mail on my iPod but, I didn't send any back so I don't think that counts as cheating (what do you think?). Now apparently I am about to babysit because I guess my mom is going to the store... I am going to have to cut this post short because my sister gave-up the computer for lent and she wants to get on (I don't blame her). I'll probably add to this post later! Ok It's later HAHAHA! We played capture the flag again but this time supper didn't interrupt! Then I went to the store to get some more girl scout cookies for Sam because my sister and her friend ate them all! Girl scouts are con-artists! I went to the stand and asked,"Which flavor is the best?" and then the girl scout leader responded,"I think the tagalongs are the best!" then the girl scout next to her said,"Those are really good" then the girl scout next to her (who didn't even look like a girl scout) said,"Yea they're the best!" then I said,"I was thinking about getting the mint thins because I love mint-chocolate!" then the girl scout leader said,"Those are the best!" (After she had already said tagalongs were the best?!?!) then the girl scout next to her said,"Those are really good" and the one next to her again said,"Yea there the best!" they definitely practiced that or something because they said the same thing for every flavor!

Day Four, of Lent!

I went to Youth Group and hung-out with my friend Alexandria! The talk at Youth Group today was about the importance of respecting your elders. This guy named Nick gave us the speech. It was actually very interesting because he gave the speech on a teens point of view and an adults point of view so that was pretty cool!... Then I volunteered to say a decade of the Rosary but, I was unaware that one (of the ten) of the little knobs on my Rosary ring had broken off so I prayed one less Hail Mary then I was supposed to but, at least no one seemed to have noticed. I got home and hung-out with my friends Michelle and Samantha and played, "Capture the Flag" so that was fun until I had to go in and eat supper :~/ Sometimes supper is such a party pooper! After that I did my chores, watched the Singing Bee, and now I am blogging. So throughout this day I have not been bored once which is good because the only times I really miss my iPod is when I am cleaning or I am bored! Which I did neither of today... well a little bit of cleaning but not much. Today was a pretty good day!

Friday, February 19, 2010

Day Three, of Lent

Today is cleaning day so I have been cleaning since I woke up (other then right now). My mom informed me that I am doing something called forty bags, for forty days... If you don't get it, it means that you get a bag the size is your choice it can be as big or as small as you like. Every day in lent (except for Sunday) you fill the bag with clothes, movies, games or whatever you don't use anymore and you throw it away or give it to charity (If it isn't to worn-out or broken). By the end of Lent your house will be less cluttered and more organized!

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Day Two, of lent!

Today is the second day of lent... It has been going good so far, I did my school then made and ate lunch, said the Angelus and now I am about to do my chores. today there hasn't been a moment of doing nothing so I haven't really had time to miss my iPod but there is still the rest of the day to go...

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Ash Wednesday!

I just got back from mass! Now as it is ash Wednesday we are officially in the Lenten season. I am gonna have to get used to not having my iPod. I'm sure that I am going to have days of utter boredom but, with the help of blogger, family and friends I'm sure that it won't be as bad as it could be!

Saturday, February 13, 2010

Fat Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, Lent!

Fat Tuesday is coming up which will be the last day that I can use my iPod touch (because I decided to give it up for Lent.) Which means that I will be putting less posts then usual. Because most of the time I post from my iPod, like I am now... I do this because the computer is always either locked or being used. Ash Wednesday is also coming up which is the first day of lent which means 40 days of no sweets or iPod. Not counting Sundays because there is actually 46 days of lent counting Sundays.

Edinburgh Scotland!!!!!

Edinburgh Scotland!

I would love to live in Edinburgh Scotland. It is such an awesome place from the castles to the underground vaults. There is so much History behind it! If I did live in Edinburgh I would want to live an equal distance from the Vaults and St. Mary's Cathedral (Even though I have no idea how far they are from each other). It is so hard to find a good traditional mass and I would be so thrilled if I could attend a mass at St. Mary's cathedral! I am gonna be adding to this post till march 10 (my birthday). Then I'll be moving on but, knowing me I'll probly move on before then or maybe even after then you never know. You should check out the Edinburgh Vaults episode of Ghost Adventures it is one of my favorites!

St. Mary's Cathedral

The Chapel of St Mary's was opened in 1814, and was originally designed by James Gillespie Graham. The church was considerably embellished over the years, and in 1878 on the restoration of the Scottish hierarchy it became the pro-cathedral of the new Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh. It was renamed the Metropolitan Cathedral on 5th July 1886 with all the rights and privileges appertaining to such a Church. The cathedral has been enlarged, rebuilt and remodelled many times over the years, with the last major structural changes commencing in the 1970s. Pope John Paul II visited St Mary's in May 1982 as part of his pastoral visit to Scotland.

In this handout photo provided by World Youth Day, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI dedicates the altar at St Mary's Cathedral during World Youth Day Sydney 2008 on July 19, 2008 in Sydney, Australia. Organised every two to three years by the Catholic Church, World Youth Day (WYD) is an invitation from the Pope to the youth of the world to celebrate their faith. The celebration, being held in Sydney from July 15, 2008 to July 20, 2008, will mark the first visit of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to Australia. Edinburgh vaults.

The Edinburgh vaults are located underneath south bridge. Respectable buisnesses such as silversmiths goldsmiths and Book binders were located on top of the bridge. The vaults were mearly used as a storage area for the buisnesses. Then for various reason these buisnesses moved down for what we would call Social buisnesses like pubs and resturants. The vaults were a very sad place to be all the undesireables of society lived there. Most of the time, they still lived there when they passed on. In the 1840s the famine in Ireland known as the potato famine brought some of the Irish to Edinburgh but since they did not have enough money to live in the houses they moved into the vaults as well.

Edinburgh castle.

Edinburgh Castle dominates the skies of Edinburgh. It sits on top of what was at one time a volcano. The first record of the castle being used as a royal residence is in the 11th century when Margaret, the wife of Malcolm III died there after hearing of her husband's death at Alnwick in 1093. "Saint Margaret" (she was later canonised) was Saxon-English, a refugee from the conquest of England by the Normans under William the Conqueror. She brought piety and manners to the Scottish court and was knowned for her generosity to the poor. A chapel was built for her but not until the 12th century. The castle remained a royal residence until the Union of the Crowns in 1603. As one of the most important fortresses in Scotland, Edinburgh Castle has been in many historical battles from the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century, up to the Jacobite Rising of 1745. It has been besieged, both successfully and unsuccessfully, on several occasions. From the later 17th century, the castle became a military base. Its importance as a historic monument was recognised in the 19th century. Although it used to be owned by the Ministry of Defence, most of the castle is now in the care of Historic Scotland, and is Scotland's second-most-visited tourist attraction. Although the garrison left in the 1920s, there is still a some military at the castle.

Grayfriars cemetery

Grayfriars cemetery is known to be one of the most haunted cemeteriess in the world! One of the hauntings is said to be the unrested spirit of the infamous 'Bloody' George Mackenzie who was buried there in 1691. George Makenzie aka 'Mackenzie Poltergeist' is said to cause bruses, bites and cuts to those who come into contact with it and many visitors have said that they feel strange sensations. Particularly, the visitors who go on the City of the Dead ghost tour, which gives them access to the covenenters prison, the people that have entered have emerged with injuries that they don't remember any way of acquiring. Another interesting thing is that a number of deaths have taken place in the Kirkyard itself. There is a Skye terrior known as grayfriar Bobby who is said to "haunt" this cemetery (I am very sceptical of animal ghosts but, I have an opened mind). After his master John Gray died he guarded his grave for 14 years until he died himself his grave reads “Greyfriars Bobby – died 14th January 1872 – aged 16 years old – Let his loyalty and devotion be a lesson to us all”. Some people say that they see him still laying on his masters grave. Ghost adventures took a short detour to the cemetary in the Edinburgh vaults episode where they told the story of a homeless man breaking into one of the mortsafes, falling down several flights of stairs into piles of skin and bones then seeing a dark figure come down from above and attack him!

Scotland, with its fair climate and many of different animal species, has given a wide selection of food for its inhabitants for years. An abundace of seafood available on and off the coasts provided the earliest settlers with their nourishment. Agriculture was introduced, with primitive oats quickly becoming the staple crop.
Other European countries started to fight over the game in Scotland. So this made it nescessary put certain restrictions on what a person was allowed to hunt, and therefore to eat. In the halls of the high class men, one could expect venison, boar, various fowl and songbirds, expensive spices (pepper, cloves, cinnamon, etc.), as well as the meats of domesticated animals. From the journeyman down to the lowest cottar, meat was an expensive commodity, and was eaten rarely.
Before Sir Walter Raleigh's introduction of the potato to the British Isles, the Scots' main sources of carbohydrate was obtained from bread made from oats or barley. Wheat was generally difficult to grow because of the damp climate. Food thrift was evident from the earliest times, All parts of an animal were used. Except the toughest bones.
The mobile nature of Scots society in the past required food that would not spoil quickly. It was common to carry a small bag of oatmeal that could be transformed into a basic porridge or oatcakes using a girdle (griddle). It is said that Scotland's national dish, haggis, originated in a similar way: A small amount of offal or low-quality meat, carried in the most inexpensive bag available, a sheep or pig's stomach.
